please help a true hardgainer!
I am 32 and weigh 125lbs. I am what you may call a true hardgainer. I have very skinny wrists and ankles. I have just joined a gym in an attempt to gain some serious weight. This is not new to me as I did the same thing 4 years ago and managed to gain 10lbs in about 7 weeks but had to give up my gym membership when my child was born.
The problem I have is my diet. I fully understand that I need to be eating a high calorie diet in order to gain weight but, in the past, this was costing me an arm and a leg having to buy MRP's, udo's oil, ZMA, glutamine, vitamins etc.
Is there no way around this guys or can you suggest a cheap, high calorie diet?
It's open to you!:help:

Look for a good multi vitamin (they are not expensive) and get a good whey protein for after training also a MRP for the day time to supplement your diet.
Extreme Nutrition do a good allrounder called Build & Recover it has all you need in one tub to start with and is good value for money.
Pm XL BODIES LTD on here as his wife is one of there reps and they do some good discounts for HARDGAINER members! ( He's my pal too :) )

You dont need supplements to gain weight period.
They can be useful because they are conveniant, but you cant beat good old fashioned nutritious FOOD!!!
Eat every 2 hours, lots of protein, but also LOTS OF CARBS!!! Do not neglect carbs my friend. Also plenty of good fats.
If you weigh 125 lbs i would shoot for approx 250g protein, 375g carbs and 100g fat. That will give you 3400 calories a day. If you dont gain weight eating that you must have worms :D
Eat lots of pasta, rice, yams, potatoes, fish, chicken, beef, eggs, nuts, olive oil etc etc etc. dont neglect fruit and veg , and obviously lots of water.
At your weight i wouldnt worry too much about eating ultra clean, if you fancy a pizza eat one!! A few dirty calories may just bump your caloric intake up enough to actually see some weight gain.
If your not lactose intollerant then milk is a great bulking aid, drink a large glass with every meal.
If you cant handle that amount of whole food then drink some of your calories, there are infinate amounts of shakes you can make. All you need is a blender.
I personally use, pint milk, large banana, 3 whole eggs, 100g oats. Large spoonful of peanut butter. I cant remember the macro breakdown but think its close to 1000 calories in just that drink.
Hope this helps you out a bit bud, but bottom line is. IF YOUR NOT PUTTING ON WEIGHT YOUR NOT EATING ENOUGH FOOD!!!!! Everybody, yes everybody can put weight on. You may have to force feed yourself cos you have a fast metabolism, but keep at it mate.
What does your training look like ??

Now i love it when people give advice "eat loads of food" !
Its very hard for the average joe to sit around and eat every 2 hours and train just for his chosen sport.
I am the first too advocate eating whole foods and a varied variety i.e veg, meat, fish and the like. However how many of us can do this while working and family comiments?
This is where supplements have their place, now before we get into i have a vested interest in supplements (yes i do on a part time bases), the whole industry started on people wanting a quick and conveinent way of supplementing their diets/food intake.
So the answer to your question Tommy is look for a good Whey drink, some amino acids, a decent allround muti vit and maybe a MRP. Forget the ZMA and other fancy supps at the moment ok.
As for which company, there are plenty of good ones on the market to choose from.

No offence to you bud but if your gonna drink shakes i would take the above real wholesome food over any MRP drink anyday. Its so easy to adjust the calories and macro breakdown and its real food. Plus there is endless things you can add to the shake for flavour.
Regarding real food intake and having the time, all it takes is preperation and planning IMHO.
Thats just my 2 p :D
